Maya Angelou, the groundbreaking poet and author who inspired millions with her moving memoirs has been found dead aged 86.
Her final tweet, sent just 5 days ago, says –“Listen to yourself and in that quietude you might hear the voice of God.”
Angelou has been celebrated as one of the greatest writers of her generation, bringing light to the struggles of women and African Americans – as well as the human condition at large. She was one of the first African American women to write a best-selling book and the first to be honoured with a Pulitzer Prize.
Tributes have begun pouring in – Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling tweeted: “If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be” Maya Angelou – who was utterly amazing.
