In readiness for Thomas Goode’s anniversary celebrating 200 years of being purveyors of the world’s finest dinner services, tableware, fine glass and decorative items, The English Group has been commissioned to commence the design and associated research for a large format high-specification Limited Edition publication.
The publication will draw heavily on the fabulous collection of historically significant assets stored in Thomas Goode’s archive in the basement of its Mayfair showrooms and – as a particular treat for this agency – will feature many examples of the business’s own design processes over the years. Much of this early design work is exquisitely hand-painted to a level of quality that simply doesn’t exist across these business sectors any longer.
The archive has also given us access to the founder’s own diaries of the time, which also provide a fascinating glimpse into the travels undertaken to source the china, porcelain and glassware that the business’s reputation is founded on.
The Thomas Goode & Co. showrooms in Mayfair also house a staggering collection – museum – of plates from many of the bespoke dinner services produced for Europe’s (and the British Empire’s) great families; not least our own royal family, the Tsar of Russia, the Viceroy of India and celebrities including Elton John and Gianni Versace. Examples of all of these are featured within the publication.
The book, housed in a luxury creased silk presentation box, will be given as a gift to Thomas Goode’s customers – both past and present – and is sure to become a highly desirable, highly collectible piece in its own right.
